Seller's Description
INCOMPLETE "Swain 26" steel twin-keel yacht with wheelhouse - $3,200 or nearest offer. Almost all the welding has been completed on this steel "Swain 26" yacht. It is almost at lock-up stage. All the hatch openings, fore & aft bollards, cabintop grab rails, anchor rollers, chainplates, and the rub rails are all from 316 stainless steel, and all have been welded in place, ready to use. The twin-keels, and all their reinforcing, have been fully completed. The engine beds, stern tube, etc, have all been fully completed. The cockpit well has all been fully completed. The rudder, and its gudgeons & pintles, are all done and ready to attach. The stern tube, engine mounts, etc are all in place and ready to be used. It's almost ready for blasting, painting and final fitout. The interior fitout can be anything or nothing, as an interior fitout is not required at all for structural purposes. This Swain 26 was designed by the Canadian yacht designer Brent Swain. It has well proven offshore capabilities. The boat was NOT built over numerous transverse frames set up on a strongback, etc. Instead the steel sheets were "folded" into shape (origami style), and the boat was built upright. An effective and proven method that results in an extremely strong, very light and extraordinarily fair hull. It is not completely frameless - there are numerous longitudinal stiffeners, and many transverse stiffeners are built in. Hull is 3mm and 4mm plate. Deck, cabin and wheelhouse are 3mm plate. Skeg is 5mm plate. The twin-keels are 6mm plate. The base of the twin-keels is 12mm plate. All insanely strong!! Ballast will be lead positioned in the twin-keels. When it's in the water, the boat looks like a round-bilge hull. My boat was photographed at every stage of its construction. There's almost a thousand more photographs of my yacht here: https://tinyurl.com/swain26 There are many innovations in this design, including: * Extremely wide sidedecks (450mm wide). * Skeg will contain coolant for the diesel motor. * The easy-access companionway entrance does not need a sliding hatch on top. * It has a forward-sloping wheelhouse window. The boat's basic dimensions are: LOA: 26' (7.9 m) LWL: 22' (6.7 m Draft: 3' (0.9 m) Beam: 8'2" (2.49 m) Prismatic Coefficient: .539 You can learn more about the history of these steel yachts, and their construction method, here: https://www.freewebs.com/origamiboats/ Because its maximum beam is less than 2.5 metres, the boat can be towed anywhere in Australia (if necessary) without permits or restrictions. The twin-keels means that no "special" boat trailer is necessary - just a flat-bed trailer will do. The Swain 26 is designed to have inside steering in a fully enclosed wheelhouse. The type you can seal the door behind you! There is also be an ordinary tiller in the cockpit. The twin-keels provide a much better motion at anchor and when underway (particularly downwind), they give shallower draft, and they make it trivial to take the hard. Never again worry about running aground! The outboard rudder is easier to maintain and easier to attach self-steering. Comes with complete construction drawings, and a construction/building book. It's a good little ship that will take you anywhere! NB: It will be a condition of sale that the buyer will remove the boat from its current location, OR come to an agreement with the property owner (that's not me) to continue renting the construction site where it is (about $90/week). Inspection by appointment. Please phone me if you would like to have a look at my boat (it's located at Burpengary, just south of Caboolture QLD). PLEASE NOTE: To contact me, you MUST telephone me and talk to me. I will NOT respond to messages, SMS texts, emails, or anything else (because spammers & scammers have overrun those alternative contact methods). Payment to be by cash, verifiable bank cheque, or direct deposit to my account. _______________________________________
