When switching on the ignition, the triple Yamaha 425HP V8's fire up in immediate succession and let out a hearty V8 burble before dropping down to idle. Switching to joystick mode is done at the touch of a button, the outboards rotate in opposing directions and the NAIAD moves sideways away from the jetty. Once underway, the throttle binnacles can be switched to single lever mode for synchronised control. Bringing the revs up to 3200 gets the boat on the plane fast and settled into a 30 knot cruise speed. Burning a combined 105L/hr allows an approximated 260 nm range. On the rare occasion the conditions allow for it, push the sticks down to wide open throttle, trim the outboards up and she will top out at a shade under 60 knots.
